Eugene Tan

Hello! I am a PhD candidate in the Sustainable Development Program at Columbia University’s School of International & Public Affairs and the Earth Institute. I focus on understanding economic behavior within infrastructure, energy, and industrial networks and systems, and their consequences for designing public policies addressing economic development and climate change mitigation.
My current research combines microeconomic analysis with engineering, network, and geospatial tools to study the regulation of global supply chain emissions, and how to cheaply speed up electricity access in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Prior to my doctoral studies, I completed an MeSc at the Yale School of the Environment, worked in data science roles at the World Bank and at a startup, and won a Junior Fellowship at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.
